Social Pedagogy

We are passionate about improving the lives of looked after children through creative intervention.

Over the last few years we have specialised in working with children in care and the adults and professionals in their lives. This has ranged from consultations and drama workshops with children, carers, social workers, looked after nurses, team leaders and managers, education for children looked after services, and government at local, regional and national level, through major creative projects to the production of major new play about the care system.

Our practice has been informed by social pedagogy (see description below) and our work has been central to the development of the Artist as Pedagogue Framework by Helen Chambers from National Children’s Bureau and Prof Pat Petrie, a leading specialist in this field, from Thomas Coram Research Unit – Institute of Education.

We offer training for:

Artists: using the principles of social pedagogy to work creatively with children in care and other children and young people in difficult circumstances.

Carers, social workers, health professionals, educators: creativity and the looked after child using the principles of social pedagogy.

If you require training or development in this area, wish to commission a project or consultation, please talk to us about your needs.

Social pedagogy is practised mainly in Northern Europe but is becoming increasingly recognised in the UK with a number of pilot projects. European social pedagogy training includes creative practice and the skills to help build meaningful relationships that help children gain enjoyment, self realisation and cultural inclusion.

Artist pedagogues aspire to provide the best for all children and work with their head, hands and heart to support the whole child's wellbeing.
